The paint down there was chipped all to hell from autocrossing and canyon runs on gooey tires. Vinyl adhesion is pretty gnarly. If your paint isn't in great shape, or wasn't prepped very well, it can pull the paint up when you pull the vinyl. There is also adhesion promoter that is used to keep edges down on more complicated areas. That said, it needs a good surface. I had to strip poor paint in a lot of areas and anywhere that I didn't sand to at least 2k grit the adhesion was noticeably decreased.
